Welcome to Tyka Kats.  We live on 40 acres with a large home we built 10 yrs ago. My husband is a
administrator of a High School and loves it. He hunts behind his hunting dogs, www.kuhnslabradors.com.

I have been breeding Maine coons and Ragdolls for 10 yrs.  I keep learning to improve the quality of
both breeds. I like showing and raising kittens for a hobby. It is fun meeting people all over the USA. I am
Special Ed teacher and a happy grandma with five beautiful grandchildren. My cats have been a great
relaxing hobby for me. We play in the evenings with toys, brush and talk a lot of how our day went. These
cats do enjoy being held, talk to and loved.

I have a couple of standard poodles that are my pets that I absolutely love. Once and awhile I will raise a
litter of poodle puppies for my grandchildren or students to play with before I pet them out. I've only had
a couple of litters the past 7 yrs.  My poodles are just my lap dogs that I like grooming. I do think
standard poodles are just a larger version of cats. Although, my husband would tell you different; If they
do not hunt then they are not dogs. As well showing the cats, I also have some our dogs shown as well.


I belong to CFA, TICA and ACFA organizations. I enjoy showing when all possible in all 3 organizations.
Breeding is only a hobby to always produce nice show kitties. Once I decide what I want to keep back to
show then I pet out the parents and pet out the rest of the litter.

I DNA test my adults or kittens that I will be showing or breeding for PKD,  HCM, & Blood disorder. One
does need to know that HCM  only tests 2 out of 9 genes, so the HCM is not a 100% proof. Although, if
your kitty carries one negative gene that does not mean your kitty will develop a heart defect. Like
raising children, you thank the Lord for each day your child or pet is healthy and still with you.   All of my
cats are FIV/FELV negative. And receive vaccinations annually.

I VACCINATE for..Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, Panleukopenia of Fort Dodge Brand
Fel-O-Vax PCT - Killed Virus(This is a 3 Way Vaccine) and the 2nd vaccine is a 4 Live Virus of Eclipse of
the 3 previous virus plus Chlamydia.  Our Adult Breeders receive Booster Vaccination's annually  plus a
luekemia vaccine.  My Kittens Are Vaccinated At: 9 and 12 Weeks Of Age. Vaccinations Will Be Up-To-Date
At Time Of Shipping for any adults or kittens. I also use pancur for worming and revolution for heart
guard, worming, protection against ringworm spore and earmites.

These PREVENTIVE vaccinations are a practice that is done by all responsible breeder's to insure your
kittens health.


Kittens start eating Royal Canin baby starter dry food and processed meat (fish & chicken). The dry
nibbles of Royal Canin are so small and easy for the kittens to start eating at an early age. Then they
graduate to Royal Kitten Food and continue receiving meat daily. Meat gives more protein and also has
less stools with any type of order. You can make your own meat products for your cats or you can buy it.

Ragdolls have the mink coat and more of the laid back personality. Maine coons have similar
personalities but more active with a shaggy coat. Ragdoll & Maine Coon Females are more dependent
where they want to be your shadow and the males still want their daily loving but tend to be more
independent. They both love the water, so be ready. Both breeds tend to be large CATS. The females will
generally weight from 8 to 17 pounds. The males tend to weight 17 to 22 pounds. I like big cats, so I try to
breed for that as well for sweet temperament.

I wouldn't ever raise another breed. I truly find both breeds to the most wonderful cats that anyone
could ever have for a pet. The unique factor of these 2 breeds is the little maintenance that these cats
have. (Little shedding, matting and strong immune system) I, as well so many of busy families do not
have the time for lots of pet grooming that may go along with some other breeds.

I generally pet out all my adults at age 2 or younger. Again, I like  to breed to keep a kitten back to show
or raise. When doing that, I need to pet an adult.. I have found that it is better for me to meet the new
family personally to see if the adult will fit in their new environment. Just like people, pets have their
personalities too. It is important to fit the perfect family with the perfect kitty. So we all are happy.
